Only 15 km from the city of Pinar del Rio, the Finca La Guabina is one of Cuba’s most exclusive horse farms, noted for its Pinto Stallions.
The old farmhouse (built in the early twentieth century) is nestled among mountains, valleys and a lagoon. It is the perfect place to combine a relaxing stay with physical pursuits including long walks, horseback riding, horse-drawn carriage rides and rowing on the lagoon. Occasional rodeos featuring the region’s best riders are another possibility at the Finca.
The property has a house with 5 rooms, and 3 independent cabins; a private restaurant for guests; barbecue; and bar. Lunch is offered in the Finca’s ranchón – a typical Cuban outdoor eating area. La Guabina was first owned by a Spanish family and thereafter by the Ferros, a Cuban family who nurtured the Finca and promoted the ranch activities popular here today.
Covering some 1000 hectares, the Finca is a working cattle ranch and farm. However, the most important and emblematic economic activity is the breeding of Cuban horses like the Pinto Cubano and Apaloosa. The name La Guabina comes from a local fish inhabiting the river and adjacent lakes.
