The district

Today when we talk about Borgo means especially that of San Giuliano, on the north shore of the river Marecchia, is separated from the center by the Tiberius Bridge. Its streets and squares are a classic example of old public housing, poor, of medieval flavor. The Borgo San Giuliano has a special feature: the interest to cultivate and care for their own history, even that small and close in time. There is a story of pride in defining “villagers”, also linked to this constantly renewed memory. Since the ’50s the taverns and cellars have been transformed into inns and restaurants, sometimes in fine, local, all successful, not to mention the borghigiane gastronomic traditions of the old seafood recipes, maybe reworked. So a recent past of rebellion and solidarity together, living from fishing and coachmen, artisans and workers, and even of misery: a life in its own way, “strong”, which has left a mark, creating a significant community spirit .
